I try to run QuarkXPress 3.31 0n 10.2.6 Classic(9.2.2). This works (FLAKY) one G4 (B&W). The same program (on a server file) does not run on an -- iBook (600MHz late 2001) with the same system 10.2.6+Classic or with OS 9.2.2 (stand alone, not Classic) -- and not on an older PPC 7500 with 8.6x It just says this version does (will) not run on this machine (or system) Error [4] (speakin German) Both the server application and a local copy do not run. The system were it runs has the still existing former OS 8.6 and the Classic OS 9 environment (on different disks). It may have something implemented the others miss. But it is otherwise the cleaner system (recently set up). What could be a likely cause?

I have not tried yet (on the flaky running Quark). Yoot Tower Game. Click to expand. Running quark in classic is hell. I found the following to be at least helpful in getting my studio running: First, put quark folder into the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder Then, in terminal: cd /Applications (Mac OS 9 )/ Now the permissions: sudo chmod -R 777 * QuarkXPress 4.0 Folder [Enter SU password at prompt] quit terminal The name of your Quark 3 folder will be different, but you will find that as you start typing you can press tab, probably by the time you have typed Qua.

Tab will complete the folder name. The 's are important as the tell the terminal that the real character space is intended and not that a break in arguments is coming Lastly, before launching Quark, make sure clasic is already running - in other words, do not let Quark spawn classic. In my studio, I have set Classic to run at startup on all my user machines, to prevent the hassle of having to launch it specifically each time Quark is needed. Your mileage may vary, but generally speaking, this should allow Quark to run somewhat happily, although not completely 100s Greg.
