In these slim volumes one can often find some great nuggets of truth as well as some practical methods for applying this truth to their business and personal lives. Unfortunately, some of these books have far more fluff than substance. I don't think that is the case with this one though. In THE ART OF INFLUENCE, Widener writes about the four laws of influence.

Unfortunately, some of these books have far more fluff than substance. I don't think that is the case with this one though.

In THE ART OF INFLUENCE, Widener writes about the four laws of influence. There isn't too much that's new here. The laws are really common sense people skills. The problem of course is that common sense is not really all that common.

That means that in this parable, you can find some great things that we could all stand to be reminded of from time to time. The only problem I had with the book is that the mentor character was a billionaire from a wealthy family and the protoge character was a Northwestern Business School graduate. I fear that the book loses some of its ability to influence because both of these characters are so far outside the realm of normal experience for the majority of the readers. I know it is outside mine. That being said however, I did enjoy the story and certainly had a few nuggets to take away and apply to my efforts to influence others in a positive and meaningful way.
